Shenzhen — The Alumni Association of the Department of Media and Communication (COMAA) at the City University of Hong Kong successfully hosted its 2nd Greater Bay Area (GBA) Alumni Gala Dinner on June 13. Building upon the success of the inaugural event, this year's gala expanded in both scale and influence, bringing together more than 80 alumni from Beijing, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and other southern China cities to reconnect, network, and discuss future development.

The event was attended by Professor Yi-Hui Christine HUANG and Professor Liu Xiao-Fan. Professor Liang Hai, Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a 2010 PhD graduate of the department, also attended as a special guest.

Vivian Lau, President of the Alumni Association, delivered the welcome address on behalf of the Management Board, centering her speech on this year's theme, "New Radiance with You". She noted that while the association cherishes long-standing friendships built over the years, it also continuously welcomes new faces. Alumni from different generations bring unique experiences and strengths, supporting and advancing alongside one another. She stated that the association will continue to diversify its activities and expand its global network to strengthen connections among alumni, as well as between alumni and the department, building a more cohesive community.

During the dinner, President Vivian Lau officially announced the launch of the COMAA GBA Mentor Programme. The initiative invites experienced alumni to serve as mentors and career guides, leveraging their industry expertise to provide one-on-one guidance, career counselling, and experience sharing for young alumni entering the workforce. The programme aims to foster a supportive community where senior alumni guide the next generation, ensuring sustainable mutual growth.

Professor Yi-Hui Christine HUANG, Head of the Department of Media and Communication, delivered a keynote presentation detailing the department's latest achievements. She highlighted that the department maintains deep collaborations with renowned overseas institutions and consistently ranks among the top 50 globally in the QS World University Rankings for Communication & Media Studies. Furthermore, student enrolment continues to expand with record-high student quality, earning strong recognition from various sectors of society.
